My hope is one person will come across this site and find something in it that inspires him or her to wait five more minutes before using, or that one little scrap of sunlight that can help make today
a day to celebrate. There is a saying that is popular in some twelve-step programs: “Don’t give up five minutes before your miracle.” If you can hang in there (whether it’s five minutes, a few hours, or a few days),
it will be worth it.
I promise you.
As addicts, the
very nature of our fascinating and
oddly wired brains pre-disposes us to always want to be altered, feel buzzed, and escape. Together, we can learn to change these patterns: to learn how to live with our addictions, and live quite fabulously.
And to do it sober.
One of the greatest assets in recovery is the people beside us on the journey. This site is a place where we can share stories, lessons, struggles and victories. We can lift each other up, talk each other down
and keep each
other honest.
I'm Susan Lynn, and I'm an alcoholic. I'm also a writer, speaker, podcaster and recovery advocate. I've spent the last five years joyfully sober, sharing what I've learned with other addicts and those who love them. My greatest joy is working with others new to the recovery journey, taking my message to groups and individuals ready to truly start living. Connect with me here, on Twitter at The Optimistic Drunk@
